How Do YOU Yates: Yates Field House Celebrates National Recreation Day

This Friday, join Yates Field House to observe National Recreational Sports and Fitness Day, recognized every year by the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA). National Rec Day was established to celebrate the founding of NIRSA, as well as promote habits of health and wellbeing in our communities.

Yates Field House is celebrating recreation through free and fun activities all day on Friday, February 5th. Yates Field House members are invited to participate in Group Fitness Classes, Cornhole, Battleship, Log Rolling, and more.

In addition to your favorite recreation activities, live music and free food will be provided. Enjoy entertainment from a live DJ on the fitness floor in the afternoon and at the pool in the evening. Free pizza will be served on the Yates mezzanine starting at 5PM.

Yates is encouraging Georgetown to get out and get active in celebration of National Rec Day. Join us on Friday and show the community #HowDoYouYates!

Spinning Instructor Training – December 13

Yates is hosting a Spinning Instructor Training on December 13 for any person interested in becoming a certified Spinning instructor.  This workshop provides the tools and information needed to lead your own official Spinning classes.  After completing the training, participants are eligible to take the Instructor Assessment online to receive an official instructor certification. Bring your gear and be ready for two great rides led by a Spinning Master Instructor. Workshop time (including two rides and a lunch break) is nine hours, from 9:00am to 6:00pm.

Wellness Fair Recap & the Yates Wheel of Fitness!

On November 7, Yates hosted another successful Wellness Fair in partnership with GUWellness.  Hundreds of GU faculty and staff enjoyed the free chair massages, health screenings, promos and giveaways, and the benefits resources as well.WellFair1

During the event, Yates staff featured the exciting “Wheel of Fitness” game, in which dozens of visitors tested their luck to win a Yates giveaway or face a random fitness challenge, including push ups, jump rope, and jumping jacks among others.  Congratulations to the many winners, and to our other contestants – better luck next year!

GUWellness Fair at Yates – Friday, November 7

On November 7th – from 11:30 to 2:30 – Yates Field House is hosting the annual GUWellness Fair.  As part of the Open Enrollment calendar, this event includes tons of information, features and promos for GU faculty and staff AND some opportunities for Yates members as well.  Dozens of kiosks for benefits and wellness partners will be available on the Yates main floor.

Event features include:

  • Flu Shots (GU ID required)
  • Health screenings
  • Free yoga class at Noon
  • Seated massage
  • Reflexology
  • iPad Raffle and other giveaways
  • Benefits assistance for open enrollment
